TYPES OF FASHION THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH by ibrahim owolabi
It was reported recently that a Nigerian female celebrity who travelled to Spain had an “accident” i wasn’t told what kind of “accident” the young woman had in Spain. i was only told she survive the “accident” and was receiving treatment in Spanish hospital.
Good health can authoritatively tell you what happened. The lady in question was making her way down the narrow step of an elegant Barcelona restaurant one evening and she lost her footings and landed heavily on the pavement, heating her head against and a hard object. She ended up in the hospital where she got twenty stitches to her forehead and ongoing physiotheraphy.
Why and how did she fail? Well, she did not hesitate to tell the doctors that her three-inch high shoes were responsible for the fall. She was trying to be trendy, to be fashionable without some thought for her health and security.
While we commiserate with our celebrity friend and wish her soonest recovery. We find it necessary to let our leaders know about the health implication of the things we put on the name of fashion and vogue. Extreme fashion, we must let you know could be unhealthy if not downright dangerous.
HIGH – HEELED SHOES
High heels are the most glaring example of this treacherous trend. What happened to our celebrity friend as narrated above is self-explanatory. But aside from the risk of accident, high heels impeded proper blood circulation to that part of the body. Pains and ankle injuries do often result from these types of shoes.
Reports field by consumer centres and hospitals in Japan said 203 accidents involving women’s shoes occurred form April 1994 to March 1999. And in August 1999, a 25-year-old Japanese woman died from a skull fracture she suffered when she fell on her new high-heeled shoes.
HAIR DYE
Procter & gamble, the manufacturing giants were slammed with a big court case in 2004 by a lady, Katherine Keith, who claimed that a hair dye manufactured by the company, caused a long list of medical problems including hair loss, a burning scalp, swelling, a rapid heartbeat, vomiting, back Spain, decreased nerve sensitivity, eye irritation, depression and post traumatic anxiety.
Meanwhile, the Environmental working group, a watchdog organization in the USA that examples consumer products, recently issued a report entitled: “skin Deep” analysing hair dye products and other cosmetics for hazardous chemicals. The report found many hair dyes contain carcinogens (known to cause cancer) chemicals with “harmful impurities” and chemicals that haven’t been subjected to enough study by the industry.
WEIRD EARINGS
Some ladies are fond of putting on big incredibly, long and weird earrings. They pose some threat to your health.
This story narrated by one victim will speak for itself. ” I had these ridiculous long earrings on while I was going to school. One day, I tried to brush my hair away from my face; my rings caught the earrings and them out of my ears! My earlobes split in half and I had to have them surgically repaired,”
Don’t put your health at risk in the name of fashion. You never can tell when an emergency would arise and you may need to struggle with people or with yourself. In all cases of emergency, long, vulgar earrings may put you in serious health condition.
BODY HUGS
No matter what you think you are gaining by putting on body hugging clothes, we would like to inform you that they are dangerous for your health wise.
Your skin needs some “breathing space” clothes that are very tight on your body interrupts and prevents the natural function of the skin, encourages the growth of body odour organism and may earn you some ailments. Some researchers even believe there is a strong link between tight trousers and infertility in men and tight bras/blouses and breast cancer in women.
CHEMICAL SPILL
One potentially dangerous source of toxins to you as a person is your wardrobe. How? You may ask. There are some types of clothing materials that can do serious harm to your health, which you may have already without knowing.
Synthetic leather or waterproof clothes, as well as those labelled “easy iron” contain many harmful chemicals and permanent-press clothing is a source of, formaldehyde. These fabrics release toxic fumes throughout their lifetime
The most widely used solvent in dry-cleaning, percholroethylene or “perc”, remains in clothing, and can contaminate your home and body. Perc known to attack the central nervous system, and can lead to headaches, nausea, dizziness, and can lead to low sperm count in men. It is also classified as a human carcinogen that may cause cancer. In fact, it is already known to cause cancer in animals.
PIERCING
Body piercing is in vogue for both men and women. The truth is that if an expert under healthy conditions does it, you won’t have problem with body piercing. But when it is not properly done, it may lead to damage of blood vessels or even cause paralysis (he ear, for example contains vital nerves which, if penetrated can cause paralysis).
BODY BARRING
This goes strictly to the women. it may not have occurred to you that exposing your vital body part in the name of fashion is dangerous. Let’s forget the moral or religious aspect of the body barring for now. Looking at it from a health perspective, there are equally harmful dimension posed by your failure to cover up properly.
Showing too much skin can draw the wrong attention and conclusion. Now it’s properly not a woman’s fault if she is rapped, and it can be totally blamed on how she chooses to dress, but I think part of what women need to protect themselves from violence and abuse is to cover up, so as not to draw the wrong attention to themselves. I’m not talking about little tees or Short Skirts; I’m referring to girls who wear micro minis that leave absolutely nothing to the imagination.
If you disagree, consider this: last year over 500 young women worldwide were murdered on their way back from a night out clubbing. And besides, you’ll draw the right attention by being a total package: beauty and brains if you dress well.
